After Penny’s inspiring presentation, she encouraged us to go hunting with our camera at lunch. We were also assigned a 250 word or less blog post about lunch by Kathleen. I wasn’t planning to do it, until I was utterly blown away by my awesome meal. Here’s my post: Read more

I love Kathleen Flinn, I finally introduced myself to her because I was too chicken at last year’s IFBC. I’ve mentioned how much I love her book “The Sharper Your Knife the Less you Cry” and she’s just as enjoyable as a speaker as she is as a writer. Even better, she’s working to create social change by empowering low income families to cook and eat healthy. Sound familiar? I’m really looking forward to talking to her in the near future about the work she’s doing. Read more

It’s that time of year again! This weekend is the second International Food Blogger’s Conference here in Seattle. IFBC is put on by Foodista. When I attended last year’s IFBC I was relatively new to food blogging, and just figuring out that I was making a difference through my blog. Yesterday’s cooking class was quite the success! I so enjoyed meeting each person who came and hearing their story of why they were there. Yes it’s true, the classes are really here! It was actually only a few days ago that the funding came through, so I made a mad dash to promote the classes at a recent job fair and had over 30 people sign up! I’m so excited and our first class is going to be a fun one of meals ready in 20 minutes with 6 ingredients or less.
One of my favorite things about doing this is meeting people and hearing their stories. I heard some incredible stories at a recent job fair (where I had a booth) of why people are wanting to learn to cook healthy, how they’ve been struggling to make ends meet and what food and cooking means in their family.
If you’d like to attend and haven’t signed up yet, please fill out my contact form and let me know what days you plan to attend. There will be a class every Wednesday in June from 11am-1pm at the Auburn Valley YMCA. Each class will be different and have its own tips, techniques and recipes. See you there!
