
We’re big curry fans in our house. While there are lots of different kinds of curry and different ways to make it, I keep curry as one of my, “I only have 15 minutes to get dinner on the table!!!” meals. To keep it simple and recipe free, I stick with a big tub of Red Thai Curry Paste that I got for a sweet deal at Cash and Carry. Our CSA starts this Thursday, and I anticipate it being the high point of my week. To give you an idea of what my last week has been like; my pastor from Hawaii passed away, my grandmother had to be rushed to the ER twice, my grandparents need to be forced into assisted living, we had to confront one of our students living with us and give him an ultimatum, and we found out our cat Cappucino has pancreatitis and FIP and will need to be put down today or tomorrow. This is all in the midst of working and teaching cooking classes. So picking up our CSA box and getting to see our dear friends who own the family farm will be a huge blessing of something positive in the midst of a difficult time. Read more

In March I posted a beef potsticker recipe as part of the United Way Hunger Challenge. While good, it doesn’t compare to my turkey potsticker recipe. Ground turkey just seems to have a softer texture that works well with the potsticker wrapper which is chewy on top and crispy on the bottom. These cost slightly more to make than the beef potstickers, but are still much cheaper than pre-made potstickers. Read more

Recipes like dipping sauces are so simple that I sometimes feel silly posting them. But then I see things like gyoza dipping sauce for $5 a bottle (or more) when I can make the same amount for under $1, and my blood pressure begins to rise! This is my favorite mix for dipping gyoza, dumplings, wontons, egg rolls, potstickers, etc. It’s simple fast, and oh so happy on my tongue. Read more

Bibimbap, Bibimbap! I just love saying it! Go ahead, try it out. Say it Bee Bim Bop. Isn’t it fun? But more than fun to say, bibimbap is fun to eat, and even good for you! It’s a signature Korean dish consisting of rice, an egg and various vegetables, and often made with beef. It’s so popular in Korea that it even has its own museum! The great thing about this Korean recipe is that you probably have most of the ingredients already. The only one that may be new to you is gochujang (or kochujang), a spicy chili paste. Read more
